Martin Courtney is an American singer-songwriter and musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the indie rock band Real Estate. He was born on July 28, 1986 in Tewksbury Township, New Jersey. He grew up in a musical family - his father was a drummer and his mother was a violinist. Courtney began playing guitar at the age of 12 and soon started writing his own songs.
After high school, Courtney attended Rutgers University where he studied English and philosophy. He later dropped out of college to pursue a career in music. In 2009, he formed the band Real Estate with some friends. The band released its debut album in 2010 to critical acclaim. Real Estate has since released three more albums, the most recent being In Mind (2017). The band is currently on an indefinite hiatus. Courtney has also released two solo albums, Many Moons (2015) and Rootless (2017).
