Japanese Breakfast is the brainchild of Korean-American musician Michelle Zauner. After releasing her solo album Psychopomp in 2016, Zauner formed the indie pop band Japanese Breakfast in 2017. The group has since released two studio albums, Soft Sounds from Another Planet (2017) and Jubilee (2020), as well as two EPs, Psychopomp (2016) and June (2019). They have also been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album for 2020's Jubilee. The band's debut album, Soft Sounds from Another Planet, was released in July 2017 to critical acclaim. It includes fan favorites such as "Machinist," "Boyish," and "Road Head." This album earned them a nomination for Best Recording Package at the 2018 Grammy Awards. In 2019, they released their second EP June which featured the singles "Essentially" and "Head Over Heels." Their latest full-length project, Jubilee, was released in June 2020 to even greater success than their previous work. The album features hit singles such as "Be Sweet," "Posing In Bondage," and "Savage Good Boy."
It debuted at number one on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart and received a nomination for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2021 Grammys.
