Jake Bugg, born Jake Edwin Charles Kennedy, is an English singer-songwriter. His self-titled debut album, Jake Bugg, was released in October 2012 and peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart. His second album, Shangri La, was produced by Rick Rubin and released in November 2013. After submitting music to the BBC's website at the age of 16, Bugg was chosen to perform on the "BBC Introducing" stage at the 2011 Glastonbury Festival and later signed with Mercury Records. He also counts Bob Dylan and Hank Williams as major influences. In an interview with Digital Spy, Bugg said that he "grew up on hip-hop" and was "really into Eminem and 50 Cent". He has also cited Noel Gallagher as an influence. When asked about his songwriting process, Bugg told American Songwriter: "It just comes. I don't sit down with the intent of writing a song about a certain subject. It just comes out, and I go with it." He has also said that he is "not very good at writing songs on the guitar", preferring to write on piano or keyboard instead. In terms of the lyrical content of his songs, Bugg has said: "I don't really think too much about what I'm writing. I just write it and see what comes out, really.
