The band CRAWLER was a British heavy rock group formed in the late 1970s as an offshoot of Back Street Crawler, following the death of guitarist Paul Kossoff. The band was fronted by Terry Slesser, with Ian McCluskey on drums and Tony Braunagel on bass. Kossoff's replacement in the group was Vivian Campbell, who would later go on to join DIO. The Crawler began their career as part of a package tour that also featured Boxer and Moon. The track "Stone Cold Sober" was played on FM radio stations in the United States, resulting in greater sales for their debut album, Crawler. They concentrated on the American market since then. With help from producer Gary Lyons, they released Snake, Rattle & Roll, their second studio production. After touring in support of the album, including dates with UFO, the band began work on their next effort. However, disagreements between management and the record label led to the group being dropped from their deal. The band broke up soon after. Slesser and McCluskey went on to form Streetwalkin' Cheetahs, while Campbell joined DIO. Braunagel went on to produce records for a number of artists, including Eric Burdon and George Clinton. In 2006, the Crawler tracks "Ready or Not" and "Stone Cold Sober" were included on the Terry Slesser Band's album New Beginnings. In the past few years, a couple of live albums from John Bundrick's private collection of recordings from 1977 and 1978 have been released, including Snakebite (2001) and Pastime Dreamer (2003). These albums feature various lineups of the band and offer a glimpse into their early days. The band has been inactive since 2006, but in September 2020, it was announced that they would be reuniting for a one-off show at the Camden Rocks Festival in London.
