Weval is a collaboration between two pals from the Netherlands – Harm Coolen (b. 1986) and Merijn Scholte Albers (b. 1989). After releasing various 12″s on their own label, the duo made their full-length debut with 2016’s The Weight. Weval has been praised by the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne and Gilles Peterson, as well as Annie Mac who named them her ‘Hottest Record In The World’. The Weight was also nominated for a Dutch Edison Award. The duo has continued to explore the new sonic territory on their follow-up mini-album, Half Age Self. Out now on Kompakt, the 6-track record sees Weval experimenting with everything from modular synths to field recordings. Half Age Self is a record about growth, both personal and musical.
