Soft Cell has become one of the most influential British acts in the music industry since its rise to fame in the early 1980s. The band was formed in Leeds, England in 1979 by Marc Almond and David Ball, two former college students who shared a love for synthesized music. They quickly gained notoriety for their unique blend of synth-pop, dance-rock, and new-wave melodies. Soft Cell released their debut album Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret in 1981 and scored major hits with songs like "Tainted Love" and "Say Hello Wave Goodbye". This album earned them widespread recognition from critics, as well as an entry into the UK Singles Chart Top 10. In 1982 Soft Cell released The Art of Falling Apart which peaked at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart. Their third album This Last Night in Sodom brought them a Grammy Nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 1984.

Their first US tour was held in 1983 with stops at famous venues such as the Ritz Theatre in New York City and Whiskey A Go Go in Los Angeles. In 1991 they reunited to embark on a lucrative comeback tour that spanned 31 dates across Europe with sold-out shows every night. In 2018 they finally returned to US stages 40 years after their inception with several shows around California. Aside from touring, Soft Cell has also achieved various accolades throughout their lengthy career including four Brit Awards Nominations, numerous Gold Records from countries all around the world, entries into multiple music halls of fame, and even a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame!
