RL Grime, formerly known as Clockwork, is an American record producer and DJ. He is a founding member of the Los Angeles-based record label WeDidIt.
Steinway was born in Los Angeles, California. He went to school at Windward School in Mar Vista there before moving on to Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, where he studied music business with a concentration in performance. After college, he moved back to LA and began working in A&R at Interscope Records. It was there that he first gained an interest in electronic music and started to produce his own tracks.
In 2012, Steinway released his first major project, the mix album High Beams. The following year, he released his debut studio album, Void. to critical acclaim. Since then, he has released two more studio albums, NOIR in 2016 and NOCTURNAL in 2019.
In addition to his solo work, Steinway has also collaborated with a number of other artists, including Baauer, Skrillex, Diplo, and Flume. He has also remixed tracks for Rihanna, Lana Del Rey, and Lorde.
As a DJ, Steinway has played at a number of major festivals, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, EDC Las Vegas, and Tomorrowland. He has also headlined his own tours, most notably the Infinite Daze Tour in 2016 and the Nova Tour in 2017.
RL Grime's musical style has been described as a blend of hip hop and trap, with elements of wonky, synth-pop, and progressive house. His 2013 song "Because of U" was included on Complex's '50 Best Songs of 2013' list. In July 2014, RL Grime was featured on the cover of The Fader. His debut studio album, Void, was released on November 17, 2014, to critical acclaim.
