Morcheeba is an English electronic band formed in the mid-1990s. The founding members are vocalist Skye Edwards and brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey. The group's debut album, Who Can You Trust?, was released in 1996. The band's third album, Big Calm, was released in 1998 and reached number five on the UK Albums Chart.
The Godfrey brothers, DJ/producer Paul Godfrey and multi-instrumentalist Ross Godfrey, migrated to London while they were in their late teens. They are originally from the little village of Saltwood, which is located near Hythe, Kent. The brothers first met Skye Edwards, a guitarist and backup singer for a funk band, at a party in Greenwich somewhere in the middle of the 1990s. Soon after, the three started writing music together and eventually founded the group Morcheeba.
The group's name was derived from a type of confectionery which Paul Godfrey liked as a child. The band's first album, Who Can You Trust?, was released in 1996. It was followed by the release of Big Calm in 1998 and Fragments of Freedom in 2000. In 2002, the band released Charango, which featured the group's first and only top 40 hit, "Otherwise".
The following year, Edwards left the group to pursue a solo career. She was replaced by singer Daisy Martey for the band's fifth album, The Antidote (2005). In 2009, the band returned with Blood Like Lemonade, which featured new singer Jody Sternberg.
The band's seventh and most recent album, Head Up High, was released in 2013. It featured the singles "Release Me Now" and "Gimme Your Love".
The band has sold over 10 million records worldwide. They have been nominated for two Brit Awards and have won three NME Awards. In 2009, they were awarded an Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement.
