KCON is an annual convention held in locations across the world, created by Koreaboo and organized by CJ E&M. The convention is meant to promote Korean pop culture and music, known as "Hallyu", throughout the world. KCON was first held in Southern California in 2012, and has since expanded to include New York, Paris, Abu Dhabi and Mexico City. Koreaboo first established KCON in 2012 as a result of a collaboration with CJ E&M's US-based affiliate, Mnet America. The convention was initially held at the Memorial Day weekend in Irvine, California and was meant to celebrate all things Korean pop culture. The event featured a number of panels and workshops that discussed various aspects of Hallyu, as well as a concert featuring some of the biggest names in K-pop. Since its inception, KCON has continued to grow in both size and scope. In 2013, the convention added an additional day and expanded to include New York City. KCON '14 took place in Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena on August 9–10 of this year. The convention featured a two-day music festival, with headlining acts such as Girl's Generation, 2NE1, EXO, and G-Dragon. In addition to the concert, KCON '14 also featured a number of panels and workshops discussing various aspects of Hallyu and Korean pop culture. KCON is currently the world's largest convention dedicated to Korean pop culture.
