Heaven 17 is an English new wave and synth-pop band that formed in Sheffield in 1980. They are known for their pioneering electronic sound, which has been influential in the development of modern music. Heaven 17 has released a total of six studio albums, three of which have gone gold or platinum. Their debut album, Penthouse, and Pavement, was released in 1981 and was an instant success. It spawned two UK Top 10 singles: “Temptation” and “Let Me Go”. The album peaked at number 6 on the UK Album Chart and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of over 100,000 copies. In 1983, Heaven 17 released The Luxury Gap, which featured the hit single “Come Live with Me”. This album reached number 4 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum by the BPI for sales of over 300,000 copies. The band's third album How Men Are (1984) reached number 5 on the UK Albums Chart but failed to reach gold status. In 1986, they released Pleasure One before disbanding in 1988 due to creative differences between members Glenn Gregory and Martyn Ware. In 1990, Heaven 17 reunited to release Teddy Bear Duke before disbanding again in 1993 following disagreements between Glenn Gregory and Martyn Ware once more.
After a lengthy hiatus, Heaven 17 reunited again in 2004 to release Before After which peaked at number 46 on the UK Albums Chart; this would be their last studio album to date as they disbanded for a third time shortly after its release due to creative differences between members yet again! Heaven 17 returned from hiatus once more in 2012 when they embarked on their first tour since 2004 titled "The Luxury Gap Tour". Since then they have toured extensively around Europe including performances at the Glastonbury Festival (2013), Isle Of Wight Festival (2014), Bestival (2015), and many more! In 2021 Heaven 17 announced their 2023 tour dates across Europe starting with their show at London's O2 Arena this 2023! This legendary band has earned numerous accolades throughout their career including being inducted into both the Sheffield Music Walk Of Fame (2011) as well as being awarded with an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution To British Music (2012). They have also been nominated for multiple Brit Awards throughout their career including Best British Group in 1984 as well as Best British Single with “Temptation” in 1983!
