About Girl Talk

American radio jockey Gregg Michael Gillis, better known by his stage moniker Girl Talk, is an expert in mashups and digital sampling. He has released five studio albums and is known for his live performances, which often incorporate elements of rock, hip hop, electronic music, and pop music.

Gillis began experimenting with digital sampling while studying at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He created Girl Talk as a solo project in 2001, releasing his first album, Secrets from the Magic Ribbon, that year. He has since released four more albums—Night Ripper (2006), Feed the Animals (2008), All Day (2010), and Broken Ankles (2013)—and toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe. His mashups are created from samples of pop music, hip hop, rock, and electronic music, and have been praised by critics and fellow musicians alike.

In addition to his solo work, Gillis has also collaborated with a number of other artists, including Danger Mouse, Freeway, and Wale. He has also remixed tracks for such artists as Beck, Nine Inch Nails, and Modest Mouse. Gillis currently resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In an interview, Gillis stated that his musical influences include Michael Jackson, Prince, Beastie Boys, Nirvana, and Aphex Twin. He has also cited the work of Girl Talk's predecessors in the field of mashups and digital sampling, such as Danger Mouse and DJ Z-Trip.
