Nicholas James Murphy known professionally as Chet Faker, is an Australian singer and songwriter. His 2013 single "No Diggity" peaked at No. 96 on the ARIA Singles Chart. His cover of "Talk Is Cheap", which originally charted at No. 72 in 1988, peaked at No. 27 on the related ARIA Digital Tracks Chart in July 2014. In October 2014, he won Best Male Artist and Breakthrough Artist at the ARIA Music Awards. Murphy grew up in Melbourne, Australia, where he first started making music under the name Nicholas Murphy. He began his career producing hip hop music, but eventually transitioned to playing the blues and soul music that he had grown up listening to. In 2012, he released an EP, Thinking in Textures, under the name Chet Faker. The EP was well-received, and led to Murphy signing with Downtown Records in the United States. In 2013, he released his debut album, Built on Glass. The album peaked at No. 3 on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). In 2016, Murphy announced that he would be taking an indefinite hiatus from music. Murphy has won several awards, including Best Male Artist and Breakthrough Artist at the ARIA Music Awards.
