WZPL (99.5 FM) is a radio station licensed to Greenfield, Indiana, and serving the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The station is owned by Emmis Communications and airs a Top 40 (CHR) music format.
WZPL first went on the air in 1959 as WIFE-FM, the easy listening sister station to AM 1260 WIFE (now WIBC). The station originally broadcast from studios and offices on North eridian Street in downtown Indianapolis. In the late 1960s, the station's call letters were changed to WZPL and it began airing a beautiful music format.
In the early 1980s, WZPL switched to a contemporary hit radio format. The station's slogan at the time was "Zplatinum 99.5, Indianapolis' Hit Music Station".
In 1986, the station was sold to Emmis Communications. The following year, the station's call letters were changed to WBWB and it began airing an adult contemporary music format.
In 1993, the station's call letters were changed back to WZPL and it reverted to a contemporary hit radio format. The station has since been branded as "99.5 WZPL, The Zoo".
The station is currently located at the Emmis Indianapolis Radio Group studios on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. The station's transmitter is located on the northeast side of Indianapolis.
WZPL is a member of the Indiana Broadcasters Association and the National Association of Broadcasters.
