Ugly Kid Joe is an American rock band from Isla Vista, California. Formed in 1987, the group is best known for their hit singles "Everything About You" and "Cats in the Cradle". The band consists of vocalist Whitfield Crane, guitarists Klaus Eichstadt and Dave Fortman, bassist Cordell Crockett, and drummer Shannon Larkin. Ugly Kid Joe's debut album As Ugly as They Wanna Be was released in 1991 and quickly became a commercial success. The album went on to reach number three on the Billboard 200 chart and sold over two million copies in the US alone. It also spawned four top-20 hits on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart - "Everything About You", "Neighbor", "Cats in the Cradle" and "I'll Keep Tryin'". The band followed up their successful debut with America's Least Wanted (1992), which featured more of their signature hard rock sound. This album reached number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart and yielded another two Top 40 singles - "Busy Bee" and "Milkman's Son". In 1995, Ugly Kid Joe released Menace to Sobriety which was met with mixed reviews but still managed to reach number 18 on the charts. Despite this success, creative differences caused them to break up shortly after its release.
After almost two decades apart, Ugly Kid Joe reunited in 2010 for a series of live shows around Europe and North America. Since then they have continued to tour extensively around the world playing both headline shows as well as festival appearances. In 2021, Ugly Kid Joe released their first studio album since 1995 titled Uglier Than They Used ta Be. The album featured 12 tracks including the lead single “Hell Ain’t Hard To Find” as well as “She’s Already Gone” which was co-written by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler. With this new record, Ugly Kid Joe has returned with a vengeance; delivering an album that captures all of their classic elements while still staying true to their unique sound!
