They Might Be Giants are an American alternative rock band formed in 1982 by John Flansburgh and John Linnell. Combining elements of punk, folk, and pop, the two Johns have achieved great success since their formation, releasing a large body of work spanning twenty studio albums, numerous EPs, and live albums, winning two Grammys, and performing countless tours. Their debut eponymous album was released in 1986 to critical acclaim, yielding two landmark singles - “Don’t Let’s Start” and “Ana Ng” - which remain staples of their live setlists as well as beloved fan favorites. The success of this record helped to establish They Might Be Giants’ distinctive sound which has spawned a string of successful albums over the years culminating with 2011’s Join Us, for which they won a Grammy Award for Best Music Video.
Since then They Might be Giants have released several more records including Nanobots (2013), Glean (2015), I Like Fun (2018), and most recently Recently (2019). Grandstand favorites such as “Birdhouse In Your Soul” and “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” off their first two albums have proven to be enduring classics from the duo's lasting catalog while more recent cuts like “Black Ops on the Junebug" exhibit the same creativity and wit that made them famous in the first place. The pair has also composed music for films like 1999's animated feature The Animation Show of Shows as well as television shows such as Malcolm in The Middle where many fans were introduced to their unique brand of storytelling through jubilant earworms like Boss Of Me and Dr. Worm featuring prominently in some episodes.
They Might Be Giants also boasts an impressive collection of accolades earned throughout their career including two Grammy Awards with additional nominations along with an induction into New Jersey's Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame in 2016. This makes them only one of three indie bands to ever receive that honor alongside R.E.M., Yo La Tengo, Wilco, and Spoon among others.
