The Wrecks are an American pop rock band based in Los Angeles, California. Nick Anderson met Aaron Kelley on Facebook around 2010 when he was fourteen-years-old. They started a band with Anderson on lead guitar and Kelley on drums.
The Wrecks had their first gig in December 2011, opening for the band Hey Monday at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, California. Anderson's mother drove him to the show. The Wrecks released their first EP, Panic Vertigo, on August 5, 2016. It peaked at number eight on the iTunes Pop charts.
Anderson and Kelley extended invitations to Billy Nally and Harrison Nussbaum to participate in their new project in late 2015. Then Nally enlisted Nick Schmidt, with whom she had gone to school in New Jersey. Because Reines and Anderson had written for the other four's previous musical endeavors, the five of them were already acquainted. Nally, Nussbaum, and Schmidt had additionally joined musician Clay Borrell on the Official Stand Up Tour in the middle of 2015.
The Wrecks attempted to professionally record their sophomore EP in Los Angeles after signing a record deal with Another Century Records, but when they weren't happy with the sound, they gave up and started again. After spending all of their money, they kept going by taking part in medical research and working minimum-wage jobs. The group temporarily relocated to Anderson's grandmother's house in rural Wellsville, New York, where they worked on their next EP, Panic Vertigo, in friend Patrick Barry's barn studio.
The Wrecks performed their song "Favorite Liar" in episode 6 of Hulu's series All Night in mid-2018. In the fall of 2018, the Wrecks openly sponsored Nerf, even creating a new song using their gear.
The Wrecks announced a new record deal with the label Big Noise Music Group on June 7, 2019. Weiss is shown leaving midway through the statement, suggesting that he has left the group to pursue a career in production. As a result, the Wrecks are once more a quartet.
The third EP by the Wrecks, Static, was published on December 18, 2020. The band had initially intended to make a deluxe album, but ultimately chose to divide the effort into two extended plays, the first of which is Static.
