The Last Dinner Party, hailing from London, England, emerged onto the indie rock scene in 2021. Comprising Abigail Morris on vocals, Lizzie Mayland on vocals and guitar, Emily Roberts on lead guitar, mandolin, and flute, Georgia Davies on bass, and Aurora Nishevci on keyboards and vocals, the band initially lacked a permanent drummer, later enlisting Rebekah Rayner for live performances. Morris, Davies, and Mayland first crossed paths in London in 2020 before embarking on their university journey. Inspired by their shared love for live The Last Dinner Party music experiences, particularly at The Windmill venue, where bands like Black Midi and HMLTD frequented, they decided to form a band. Originally named "the Dinner Party," their moniker was influenced by the notion of a lavish and indulgent gathering symbolizing celebration. Roberts was introduced to Morris as a potential guitarist by a mutual friend, and Nishevci was subsequently brought on board. Hindered by the COVID-19 lockdown in the UK, the band faced initial challenges in rehearsing together, eventually making their live debut at The George in London in November 2021. Their journey gained momentum when they signed with management group Q Prime in early 2022. Over the following year, they fine-tuned their sound while garnering support through live performances across London, culminating in an opening slot for the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park in July 2022, under their original name, The Dinner Party.
To avoid confusion with another group, they rebranded as The Last Dinner Party upon signing with Island Records. Their debut single "Nothing Matters," produced by James Ford, dropped on April 19, 2023, and was featured in the EA Sports FC 24 soundtrack. Throughout the summer of 2023, they supported Hozier and graced stages at prominent festivals like Glastonbury and Latitude. Their rising trajectory continued with appearances on BBC Radio 6 Music's New Music Fix Friday and later on BBC's Later... with Jools Holland, showcasing their singles "Nothing Matters" and "My Lady of Mercy." They further solidified their presence with a performance on The Graham Norton Show in January 2024. Their achievements culminated in winning the BRITs Rising Star award at the Brit Awards 2024 and securing the top spot on the BBC Sound of 2024 poll. Their debut studio album, "Prelude to Ecstasy," released on February 2, 2024, soared to number one on the UK Albums Chart, marking a triumphant milestone in their burgeoning career.
