Santi White known professionally as Santigold is an American singer and songwriter. Her debut album, Santogold, was released in 2008. She has described her genre as "alternative rock, punk rock, reggae, and Dancehall". She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother is of African descent and her father is of European ancestry. When she was 18 years old, she changed her name from Santi to Santigold. Santigold attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. After graduating, she worked for a short time as an art teacher before starting her music career. Her debut album, Santogold, was released in 2008. The album was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
