Rare Americans is a Canadian-Slovak band that is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada that was founded by James Priestner and Jared Priestner in 2018. The band consists of James Priestner on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Jared Priestner on lead guitar and backing vocals, Danyel Wrigglesworth on bass guitar, and Kaleb Hagen-Kerr on drums.
Previously, James and Lubo played in a band named "The Lunas." When James and Jared were traveling in the Caribbean, James playfully suggested that they could create a song, to which Jared responded, "A song? Why not an entire album? When they came back, Lubo also joined their group. They kept coming up with names until Jared at random came up with "Rare Americans," which stuck. Rare Americans was created in this way.
The band has released two studio albums, In the Shadows (2019) and American Dreams (2020). They have also released one live album, Live at the House of Blues (2019).
Their single "In the Shadows" peaked at number 8 on the Canadian Hot 100.
