Robert Good (born June 29, 1971), better known as Matthew Frederick Robert Good, is a Canadian musician. He was the lead vocalist and songwriter for Canada's Matthew Good Band, which was one of the most popular alternative rock bands during the 1990s and early 2000s. Good has released several solo albums, and his latest album, Lights of Endangered Species, was released on April 18, 2017. Good was born in Burnaby, British Columbia. He began playing guitar when he was 13 years old. Good's father died of cancer when Good was 15 years old. Good's mother worked as a nurse to support the family. Good attended Simon Fraser University, where he studied political science. He dropped out of university after one year to pursue a career in music. The Matthew Good Band's first album, Last of the Ghetto Astronauts, was released in 1992. The album was a critical and commercial success, and the band became one of Canada's most popular alternative rock bands. After the band broke up in 2002, Good pursued a solo music career and became known for his work as a political commentator and mental health activist.
