Cake is an alternative rock band from Sacramento, California, consisting of singer John McCrea, trumpeter Vince DiFiore, guitarist Xan McCurdy, bassist Daniel McCallum, and drummer Todd Roper. Formed in 1991, Cake has been one of the most successful alternative rock bands of all time. Their unique sound combines elements of funk, country, punk rock, and hip-hop with a strong emphasis on lyrical storytelling. The band's debut album Motorcade of Generosity was released in 1994 and featured hit singles such as "Rock 'n' Roll Lifestyle" and "The Distance". The album was a critical success and earned them their first Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. With the release of their second album Fashion Nugget in 1996, Cake achieved mainstream success with hits like "Never There", "I Will Survive" and the iconic single "The Distance". This album also earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album. In 2001 Cake released their third studio album Comfort Eagle which included hit songs such as “Short Skirt/Long Jacket” and “Love You Madly”.
This album won them their first Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album at the 44th Annual Grammy Awards. Since then they have released five more albums including Pressure Chief (2004), Showroom Of Compassion (2011), B-Sides & Rarities (2016) and two live albums Live At The Crystal Palace (2002) and Live At Red Rocks (2017). Throughout their career Cake has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards winning two for Best Alternative Music Albums with Comfort Eagle (2001) and Showroom Of Compassion (2011). They have also been recognized by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the 100 Greatest Artists Of All Time as well as being named one of VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists Of All Time. Cake has announced that they will be embarking on a world tour in 2023 to celebrate 30 years since their formation!
