Better Than Ezra is an American alternative rock band from New Orleans, Louisiana. Formed in 1988 by lead singer and songwriter Kevin Griffin Better Than Ezra, the band consists of Tom Drummond, Michael Jerome, and James Arthur Payne Jr. The group achieved mainstream success in 1995 with their platinum-certified Better Than Ezra album Deluxe, which spawned the chart-topping single "Good." They followed up with another hit single "Desperately Wanting," which was certified gold. The success of Deluxe allowed Better Than Ezra to tour extensively throughout the United States and Europe. This included headlining their own tours as well as opening for acts like Hootie & The Blowfish, Dave Matthews Band, and Counting Crows. In 1998, they released their third studio album Friction Baby to critical acclaim. It produced two singles: Better Than Ezra King Of New Orleans and "At The Stars". Following Friction Baby's release, Better Than Ezra began to focus on Better Than Ezra live shows while continuing to write new material for future albums. In 2001 they released Closer which featured the hit single "Extra Ordinary." The song quickly became a fan favorite and was certified gold in the US.
After touring extensively in support of Closer, Better Than Ezra took a break to focus on other projects before returning with their fifth studio album Before the Robots in 2005. This album featured the singles "Juicy" and "A Lifetime". Throughout their career Better Than Ezra has earned numerous awards including two Billboard Music Awards for Top Modern Rock Track ("Good") as well as an ASCAP Pop Award for Most Performed Song ("Desperately Wanting"). In 2021 Better Than Ezra celebrated 33 years together with a special anniversary concert at Bold Sphere Music at Champions Square in New Orleans! Now that they have returned after a brief hiatus from recording music, fans are eagerly awaiting new music from this beloved Better Than Ezra band!
