About Rogers Centre

The Rogers Centre (previously known as SkyDome) is an iconic multi-purpose stadium located in the heart of Downtown Toronto, Ontario - right at the base of its most recognizable landmark, the CN Tower. The concept of constructing a domed stadium goes back to Toronto's unsuccessful attempt at becoming Canada's candidate city for the 1976 Summer Olympics. Although the 'Ontario Stadium Project' was its official name throughout construction, local media often referred to it simply as 'the Dome' or 'Toronto Domed stadium' or 'Toronto Stadium.' On February 2, 2005, Ted Rogers of Rogers Communications boldly declared that he had secured a three-year corporate agreement to rename SkyDome or SkyDome Toronto as the iconic "Rogers Centre". As of now, the stadium has a seating capacity of 53,506 for football and 41,500 for other events. Opened in 1989 on the former Railway Lands, Toronto's Rogers Centre proudly serves as home to Major League Baseball's iconic Blue Jays. From 2008 to 2013, the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL) provided Toronto with a special treat every year - hosting their annual game at a nearby stadium as part of what was known as the 'Bills Toronto Series'.

Apart from its state-of-the-art sports arena, this venue is also the perfect choice for conventions, trade fairs, and live concerts. It also caters to traveling carnivals, circuses, and monster truck shows! In 2005, the Toronto Blue Jays' ownership was taken over by Rogers Communications which changed the stadium's name to "Rogers Centre". As a result of this purchase, it has since become synonymous with the team and their home field. The venue is a landmark for its pioneering use of a fully functioning, motorized retractable roof, and the 348-room hotel that accompanies it – 70 rooms offer views directly onto the playing field. Additionally, it is one of the few remaining stadiums in North America built to host both baseball and football games. The 2015 Pan American Games began and concluded in the renowned stadium, now more commonly known as the Pan-Am Dome or Pan-Am Ceremonies Venue due to sponsorship regulations. History was made when the stadium became the first major team sports arena in North America to feature a fully functional, retractable roof. For years, it was thought to be impossible to use natural grass in this stadium since the roof opens and closes.

Though its interior wasn't designed or constructed with inclement weather such as low temperatures and drainage systems in mind. The Rogers Centre Toronto boasts a whopping 5,700 club seats and 161 lavish luxury suites. The Hard Rock Café restaurant at the complex was a thriving spot until December 2009, when its lease expired and it had to shut down. Situated within Rogers Centre, the Toronto Marriott City Centre Hotel offers 70 guestrooms and a restaurant with a bar - The Sportsnet Grill - offering stunning views of the field. In April 2022, the Blue Jays and the Score Bet proudly revealed their arrangement to construct a luxurious branded sports bar and eatery at the Rogers Centre that will be operational 365 days annually. In 1989, over 5 million dollars of artwork was commissioned ($9.5 million in 2021 USD). These works included: The Audience - A Tribute to Baseball, The Art of the Possible, Salmon Run, and Spiral Fountain; all masterpieces that have continued to inspire viewers for generations. The Rogers Centre jumbotron stands an awe-inspiring 33 feet (10 m) in height and spans 110 feet (34 m) across. The stadium is the ideal destination for a variety of events - from Baseball, Basketball, and Football to Soccer, Motorsports, and many more!

Rogers Centre has been the site of a variety of sports, such as cricket and tennis exhibitions, Gaelic football games, hurling competitions, and Australian rules football matches. In addition, the venue has welcomed a variety of Professional wrestling matches, concerts, Disney on Ice performances and circus showcases. On August 13, 2006, the Rogers Centre was host to a remarkable event: The Opening Ceremonies of the XVI International AIDS Conference. The venue has welcomed a multitude of remarkable public speakers, such as the Dalai Lama, Christian evangelist Billy Graham, and Nelson Mandela; and even had J. K Rowling and Margaret Atwood give a book reading! Toronto Blue Jays schedule ware includes home games against some of their most formidable rivals like Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, and Milwaukee Brewers. Plus there's more competition coming from Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins!
