In the summer of 2014, a brand new center-ice display was unveiled at the arena. In 2015, the arena underwent a major renovation to replace every seat with comfortable, cushioned seating for maximum enjoyment. Xcel Energy Center, Saint Paul RiverCentre, and The Roy Wilkins Auditorium have achieved three prestigious certifications: Green Globes Certification in November 2017; LEED Platinum Certification in September 2019[22]; and Event Industry Council (EIC) Sustainable Event Standards Gold certification in November 2020. With these top-tier credentials, the campus is now recognized as an international leader in sustainable operations. As the world's first complex to earn all three of these coveted certifications, the Xcel Energy Center and Saint Paul RiverCentre campus has taken numerous steps toward sustainability. This includes achieving a 60% waste recycling rate, encouraging 40% of staff members to commute via bus, bicycle, carpool, or efficient vehicle, and making sure that 90% of cleaning products meet green standards. The Xcel Energy Center is renowned for its prestigious events, hosting the Minnesota State High School League Girls Volleyball and Wrestling State Tournaments, Boys and Girls Hockey Tournaments, as well as 2002, 2011, and 2018 NCAA Frozen Four. From 2005 to 2015 it was home of the National Lacrosse League's Minnesota Swarm before they moved on to Georgia. In addition to that it has also been the host venue of the Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament (with Joe Louis Arena in Detroit) since 2018 plus the NCHC Frozen Faceoff event.
