Since its launch in 1986, this theater has been administered by the Nederlander Organization. Penn & Teller graced the stage of this theater with their Broadway performance in 2015, followed by On Your Feet!, Lewis Black: Black to the Future in 2016; and Escape to Margaritaville along with The Illusionists' Magic of the Holidays were added as featured attractions during 2018. The Broadway Theater made headlines in 2018 when it was used to tape A Very Wicked Halloween: Celebrating 15 Years on Broadway, an iconic television special. In September 2018, Vornado acquired full control of the Marquis Theatre and its accompanying retail space for a staggering $442 million. Having opened to a sold-out crowd in 2019, Tootsie graced the stage of the Marquis Theatre. On March 12, 2020, the world was rocked with news of the coronavirus pandemic - and in response to this global crisis, all Broadway theaters including The Marquis were forced to shutter their doors. On April 2022, the curtains will be drawn and Beetlejuice, a musical from Winter Garden Theatre, made its grand reappearance at the theater. The show ran until January 2023.
