About The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a play written by Simon Stephens which was first performed at the National Theatre in London in 2012. It is based on the novel of the same name by Mark Haddon and tells the story of Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old boy with an autism spectrum disorder who investigates the mysterious death of his neighbor's dog. The play has been met with critical acclaim and won seven Olivier Awards including Best New Play, as well as five Tony Awards. The original London production starred Luke Treadaway as Christopher, with Nicola Walker playing his teacher Siobhan and Niamh Cusack portraying his mother Judy. The show was directed by Marianne Elliott and featured music composed by Adrian Sutton. In 2014, it opened on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre where it ran for over 500 performances before closing in September 2016. The cast included Alex Sharp as Christopher, Ian Barford as Ed, Francesca Faridany as Judy, Enid Graham as Siobhan, and Helen Carey as Mrs. Alexander.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has also been adapted into a film directed by Stephen Daldry which was released in 2019. It stars Max Records as Christopher, Catherine Keener as Judy, and Viola Davis as Siobhan. The movie received positive reviews from critics for its visuals and performances but was not nominated for any Academy Awards despite earning several Golden Globe nominations. In 2021, a new stage adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time premiered at London's Gielgud Theatre starring Joshua Jenkins as Christopher Boone alongside an all-star cast that includes Claire Skinner (Judy), Paul Ritter (Ed), Sarah Woodward (Siobhan) and Nicholas Gleaves (Mr Shears). This production marks 20 years since Mark Haddon's novel first came out and features updated staging techniques to bring this timeless story to life once again. In addition to this production, there are plans for a new international tour in 2023 featuring stops in Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America. This tour will feature an all-new cast performing this beloved story that has captivated audiences around the world since its debut nearly 10 years ago!
