Noises Off are one of the most beloved comedy plays of all time. It tells the story of a failing theatrical production and its cast of characters as they prepare for their show in increasingly chaotic conditions. The play was written by British playwright Michael Frayn in 1982 and has been performed in numerous languages around the world since then. Noises Off has become a classic piece of comedic theatre, with performances on both stage and screen featuring an ensemble Noises Off cast and plenty of physical gags. On stage Noises Off has had multiple tours, beginning in London's West End where it premiered to great acclaim in 1983. The show then toured extensively across Europe, North America, and Australia before reprising its original UK tour in 2006 with a revival at the National Theatre which starred Reece Shearsmith, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Christopher Luscombe, and Celia Imrie amongst others.
Since then there have been various other UK tours as well as numerous productions across the United States including one that ran from 2010–2011 on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre starring Andrea Martin. Noises Off has also been adapted for film multiple times over the years beginning with Richard Loncraine's 1992 movie starring Carol Burnett and Michael Caine which was highly acclaimed by critics for its laugh-out-loud humor and its faithfulness to the stage production. In recent years several one-act versions have appeared at fringe festivals around the world garnering positive reviews for their clever adaptation of Frayn’s script into a shortened version of the Noises Off play with many physical gags intact.
