A Man of No Importance is a musical with music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and a book by Terrence McNally, based on the 1994 Albert Finney film. The musical tells the story of Alfie Byrne, an Oscar Wilde-loving bus driver in 1960's Dublin. Alfie's passion is directing an amateur theatre group at St. Imelda’s Church Hall, where he stages works by his idol. This production was also well received and ran for six months before closing in 2004. In 2006, a studio cast album was released featuring performances from some of the original Broadway cast members including Roger Rees and Faith Prince along with new performers such as Brian d'Arcy James and Sutton Foster. The album was nominated for two Grammy Awards but did not win either award. In 2023, A Man of No Importance play will be returning to the stage at Classic Stage Company in New York City with performances beginning in June. This production will feature performances from some of Broadway's biggest stars including Tony Award winner Laura Benanti (Adele Rice), Tony Award nominee Santino Fontana (Alfie Byrne), and Tony Award nominee Rob McClure (Robbie Faye).
