Zorro is a musical with music by the Gipsy Kings and John Cameron, a book by Stephen Clark and Helen Edmundson, and lyrics by Stephen Clark. It is based on the legend of Zorro, a fictional character created in 1919 by Johnston McCulley.
The musical premiered at the Bristol Hippodrome in the United Kingdom in 2004, and has since played in several other countries. The show was produced on Broadway by seller Andrew Lloyd Webber and opened at the Teatro ZinZanni in Seattle in 2009.
After the first several were canceled owing to technical difficulties, the musical's preview performances at the Garrick Theatre in London started on July 2, 2008. The opening day was July 15, 2008. Both Rafael Amargo and Christopher Renshaw handled the choreography. The cast included Jonathan Newth as Don Alejandro De La Vega, Nick Cavaliere as Sergeant Garcia, Emma Williams as Luisa, Adam Levy as Ramon, Lesli Margherita as Inez, and Matt Rawle as Zorro/Diego De La Vega.
By "Take Two Theatricals," a new concert rendition was created in February 2020. It was presented for one evening in London's Cadogan Hall. Leslie Margherita, who received an Olivier Award for her performance, and Emma Williams, who received a nomination, served as the cast's captains. John Cameron created new compositions, orchestrations, and arrangements for this performance. Although there was no set, the performers had extra props and attire. The visual projections were developed and made by George Reeve. In interviews, Lesli and Emma both expressed how happy they were to be working together once more and returning to this show after all these years.
