Meredith Willson and Richard Morris' The Unsinkable Molly Brown is a 1960 Broadway musical with music by Meredith Willson and lyrics by Richard Morris. The story is based on the life of Margaret Tobin Brown, a Colorado woman who survived the sinking of the Titanic.
The musical opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre on November 3, 1960, and closed on June 17, 1961, after 258 performances and one preview. The original cast included Tammy Grimes as Molly Brown, Harve Presnell as J.J. Brown, David Wayne as Mr. Harold Balfour, and Jack Kruschen as Paddy Mulligan.
The show was staged by direction by Morton Da Costa and choreography by ONeil Ford. The original Broadway production won two Tony Awards: Best Leading Actress in a Musical (Grimes) and Best Original Score (Willson). A 1964 film adaptation starring Debbie Reynolds as Molly Brown was also successful. The musical has been revived several times, most notably in a 1988 Broadway production starring Vicki Lawrence as Molly Brown.
