About Sister Act

"Sister Act," a musical adaptation of the 1992 film, has enjoyed a vibrant history since its inception. The journey began with its world premiere at the Pasadena Playhouse in California on October 24, 2006, where it ran until December 23, 2006, breaking box office records by grossing $1,085,929. Following this success, the production moved to the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, running from January 17 to February 25, 2007. The musical then made its way to London's West End, opening at the London Palladium on June 2, 2009. This production was directed by Peter Schneider, choreographed by Anthony Van Laast, and produced by Whoopi Goldberg in collaboration with Stage Entertainment. The creative team also included set designer Klara Zieglerova, costume designer Lez Brotherston, and lighting designer Natasha Katz. The cast featured Patina Miller as Deloris Van Cartier, Sheila Hancock as the Mother Superior, and Ian Lavender as Monsignor Howard. The West End run concluded on October 30, 2010.

The Broadway production of "Sister Act" commenced with previews on March 24, 2011, at the Broadway Theatre and officially opened on April 20, 2011. Jerry Zaks directed this version, with Douglas Carter Beane providing additional book material. Patina Miller reprised her role as Deloris, marking her Broadway debut, alongside Victoria Clark as the Mother Superior and Fred Applegate as Monsignor Howard. The musical received critical acclaim, earning five Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Actress in a Leading Role for Miller, and Best Featured Actress for Clark. Despite its success, the Broadway run concluded on August 26, 2012, after 561 performances.
