SHOUT! The Mod Musical is an Off-Broadway musical written by Phillip George and David Lowenstein with music from the swinging sixties. The show is set in the fictional town of Maynard, Ohio during the summer of 1964. The plot follows the lives of four teenage girls as they navigate their way through love, friendship, andcoming of age.
The series covers the lives of five women in their 20s (The Red Girl), 30s (Green, Blue, and Yellow girls), and 40s (Orange girl), all of whom deal with challenging circumstances, most of which have to do with relationships. The drama is set in London between the early 1960s and the year 1970. All five of the female characters in the novel write letters to Gwendolyn Holmes, an advice columnist for the magazine "Shout!" who offers them guidance on how to handle these circumstances.
The only American character in the program who made the long trip to Britain to see Paul McCartney is The Yellow Girl. The Orange woman is depicted as a mature adult who is married, in her forties, and beginning to suspect her husband of having an extramarital affair. The Blue girl is stunning and well-off, and while she may wax lyrical about how wonderful her life is, there are some doubts about her sexual orientation. The Green girl, who frequently hooks up with men and uses innuendos, is the show's stereotypically sexually charged "racey" character. The Red girl is the youngest and most optimistic character, and although she initially claims she is not attractive like other girls, she eventually meets the guy of her dreams.
SHOUT! The Mod Musical is a fun and upbeat show that will leave you wanting more. The music is catchy and will get you moving in your seat. The characters are relatable and lovable.
