Honeymoon in Vegas is a musical with a book by Andrew Bergman and music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. It is based on the film of the same name starring Nicholas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker. The UK premiere left the audience in awe at The Nederlander Theatre, opening on January 15, 2015, and closing on July 5, 2015. The production and the stylish bing band score were directed and choreographed by Gary Griffin with music direction by Jason Robert Brown, who were also masterminds in the great show, The Bridges of Madison County. The original Broadway cast included Rob McClure as Jack Singer, Josh Radnor as Andy Barber, and Brynn O'Malley as Betsy Nolan. The plot of the musical follows Jack Singer, who promised his dying mother that he would never get married, and Betsy Nolan, who is about to be married.
When Jack's best friend, Andy Barber, convinces him to go to Las Vegas for a bachelor party, things quickly go awry with the new girlfriend Betsy. Jack puts off proposing to Betsy, but when he finally summons his courage, and taking her to Las Vegas to be married, a charming gambler called Tommy threatens to whisk her away to a life of luxury on the islands of Hawaii. Enjoy the story of an unusual love triangle, who can resist a happy ending with a dashing gambler? The musical received mixed reviews from critics. Some praised the score and performances, while a group of critics of Honeymoon in Vegas tells that they felt that the show was too similar to the film and lacked originality. Despite this, the musical was nominated for several Tony Awards, including Best Score, and won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music in a Musical.
