Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical is a 1968 rock musical with a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot. A product of the counterculture and sexual revolution of the late 1960s, several of its songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement. The musical's profanity, its depiction of the use of illegal drugs, its treatment of sexuality, its irreverence for the American flag, and its nude scene caused much comment and controversy. The Broadway production ran for 1,750 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1969. The first West End production ran for 600 performances, while subsequent productions in the 1970s all closed quickly. The show has enjoyed several successful revivals since then.

It was the first musical to be broadcast on live television when the final night of its original Broadway run was broadcast by ABC in 1971. Hair tells the story of the "tribe", a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in New York City and protesting against the Vietnam War. Claude, his good friend Berger, and their girlfriends Sheila and Jean seek fun and adventure in the city. The tribe introduces the audience to the "Age of Aquarius" through the use of drug-induced hallucinations, which is how Claude first meets Sheila.
