Glen Ballard and Dave Stewart wrote the music and lyrics for Ghost The Musical, which features a book by Bruce Joel Rubin and lyrics by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard. The musical, based on the hit film of the same name, tells the story of Sam Wheat (played by Richard Fleeshman), a banker who is murdered, and his girlfriend Molly Jensen (played by Caissie Levy). Sam is caught between this world and the next and must find a way to warn Molly about his death so that she can save herself.
Performances of the musical began on March 28, 2011, and continued through May 14, 2011, at the Manchester Opera House in Manchester, England, where it had its world premiere tryout. The show then transferred to the Piccadilly Theatre in London's West End, where it opened on June 24, 2011.
The musical received mixed reviews from critics. Some praised its visual effects and score, while others felt that it was too similar to the film and lacked emotional depth. The show closed on August 18, 2012, after 33 previews and 372 performances.
