Elf the Musical is a heartwarming story adapted from the 2003 film of the same name. The story follows Elf, a human who was raised among Santa's elves, as he sets off on a journey to New York City in search of his true identity. Along the way, Elf learns the importance of family, friendship, and Christmas cheer. When Buddy Hobbs, a young orphan child, mistakenly climbs into Santa Claus' bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole when the sleigh crashes in Central Park, he's raised as an elf by Santa and his elves. However, years later when Buddy discovers he's human, he embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father Walter Hobbs (who turns out to be quite high on the Naughty List) at Santa's prompting. Santa's helper, Buddy, is desperately trying to make his family and New York City as a whole remember the real meaning of Christmas.
The Walter Hobbs character is quite different in the film and musical versions of the story. In the film, he comes across as greedy and obsessed with work while being neglectful of his family. The musical portrayal of him shows him to be more bumbling, forgetful, and just plain overworked. Elf the Musical is the perfect holiday treat for the whole family.
