Bennett grew up in Massapequa Park, New York. He has two sisters, Shereen and Nicole. His father is of Italian descent and his mother is Jewish. He attended Plainedge High School. Bennett's acting debut was in the 2004 film 13 Going on 30, playing the younger version of Mark Ruffalo's character, Matt Flamhaff.
