Raymond Albert Romano is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and screenwriter. He is best known for his role on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, for which he received an Emmy Award, and as the voice of Manny in the Ice Age film series.
Romano was born on December 21, 1957, in Queens, New York City, to Italian American parents Lucie (née Fortini), a piano teacher, and Albert Romano, a real estate agent, and an engineer. He has an older brother, Richard A. Romano, who is also an actor and writer. Romano grew up in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Queens.
Romano attended elementary and middle school at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills. After transferring from Archbishop Molloy High School, he graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1975. He was in the same high school class as Fran Drescher and later appeared on Drescher's television show, The Nanny, as an extra.
Romano studied accounting at Queens College, with the intention of becoming a certified public accountant (CPA), but dropped out after one semester. After abandoning his plans to become a CPA, Romano worked as a loan shark's collections agent and did various other odd jobs before landing a role on the television sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond in 1996. He has been nominated for fourteen Emmy Awards, winning once in 2002 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Romano has also starred in the films Big Fat Liar (2002), Ice Age (2002), Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006), Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), and Ice Age: Collision Course (2016).
