Nigel Ng Kin-ju better known by his online persona Uncle Roger is a Malaysian stand-up comedian and internet celebrity based in London, England. He is known for his comedic reviews of cooking shows, in which he often imitates the mannerisms and expressions of the show's hosts. Nigel Ng Kin-ju and born on 16 October 1988 to Malaysian Chinese parents. Ng's comedy is heavily reliant on his Malaysian Chinese heritage and culture clash humor. He was educated at SMK USJ 4 (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan USJ 4), a government secondary school in Subang Jaya, Selangor. He then studied mechanical engineering at the University of Nottingham, graduating in 2010. After graduation, Ng worked as a design engineer for an oil and gas company in Kuala Lumpur for two years. In 2012, he moved to London to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. Ng began his comedy career by performing at open mic nights. In 2014, he made his television debut on the BBC Asian Network comedy show Goodness Gracious Me. In 2015, Ng created the Uncle Roger character for his YouTube channel.
The character is based on Ng's grandfather, who was a "strict, old-school Chinese man". Uncle Roger reviews cooking shows in a deadpan manner, often imitating the expressions and mannerisms of the show's hosts. The character has been described as "hilarious" and "cranky". In 2019, Ng appeared on an episode of the BBC Two cooking show MasterChef UK, in which he was a guest judge. He also made a cameo appearance in the 2019 film Last Christmas. In 2020, Ng released his debut stand-up comedy special, Uncle Roger, Live From Kuala Lumpur, on Netflix. The special was filmed in front of a live audience at the Malaysia YouTube FanFest in Kuala Lumpur.
