About Mike Epps

Michael Elliot Epps, one of America's most beloved stand-up comedians and actors, first graced the world on November 18th, 1970. Day-Day Jones, portrayed by him in the two Friday feature films Next Friday and Friday After Next, would become his most iconic role. He also appeared humorously as "Black Doug" in The Hangover and its sequel, The Hangover Part III together with other comedians. He assumed the role of Boog in Open Season 2, replacing Martin Lawrence. The two had previously worked together on Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins where he played Reggie, who was Roscoe's (played by Lawrence) cousin. Starring as Lloyd Jefferson "L.J." Wade, he brought his signature charisma to the silver screen in Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) and Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) and he also received an NAACP Image Award for his part in Survivors Remorse. Notable for his roles in the popular sitcoms Uncle Buck and The Upshaws, he has established himself as an accomplished actor. The late Tommie and Mary Reed Epps brought up their son, Malcolm, in Indianapolis - the city of his birth.

As he matured, Epps relocated to Brooklyn and showcased his talents on Def Comedy Jam in 1994. Kicking off his career, Epps joined the Def Comedy Jam tour in 1995 and was featured on two of HBO's renowned Def Comedy Jam broadcasts. Epps' chart-topping hit single "Big Girls", released in 2008, was initially recorded by Bow Wow featuring Yung Joc. The song quickly gained traction and soon made it to the top of the charts like Ice Cube songs. As an Indianapolis native, Epps proudly acted as the "Super Bowl ambassador" in preparation for 2012's Super Bowl. He was not only featured in television commercials advertising the Super Bowl Village but also made special appearances during the week of the iconic event. He wedded Mechelle McCain on July 2006 in a romantic ceremony, marking the start of their marriage. Until their divorce in September 2017, the couple resided happily together in Beverly Hills, California. In June 2019, Epps and Kyra Robinson - the executive of OWN Network as well as the producer for Iyanla: Fix My Life - joined together in matrimony at a beautiful ceremony held in Newport Beach, California. In a 2019 GQ interview, Mike Epps debunked the long-circulated assumption that he and actor Omar Epps are related.
