Michael David Rapaport is an American actor and comedian. He has appeared in over seventy films and television shows.Rapaport was born on March 20, 1970, in New York City, the son of David and June Rapaport. His father was a radio disc jockey and television personality. His mother was a schoolteacher and guidance counselor. He has two sisters, Elizabeth andcomedian-actress Mindy Rapaport. He is Jewish.Rapaport grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and attended Erasmus Hall High School, followed by Sarah Lawrence College. Rapaport, then 19 years old, relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1989 in an effort to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian. He tells a story in his stand-up routine about finding an apartment on Craigslist that was advertised as "close to the Laugh Factory". When he arrived at the address, it turned out to be the factory itself. He worked in several jobs, including a stint as a security guard at Fox Studios and working for FedEx. He began his acting career with bit parts in films such as True Romance and Higher Learning. His first significant role came in the 1995 film Mighty Aphrodite, where he played Lenny, a love interest of Mira Sorvino's character. This led to roles in other films such as Beautiful Girls, Cop Land, Kissing a Fool, Deep Blue Sea, and The 6th Day. In 2000, Rapaport had a starring role in the film Bamboozled. He also appeared in the 1998film Jackie Brown, directed by Quentin Tarantino. In 2001, he played Frank Gillespie in the comedy Dr. Dolittle 2. From 2002 to 2006, Rapaport starred on the television sitcom The War at Home. In 2007, he appeared in the crime drama We Own the Night. Rapaport has also made guest appearances on television shows such as Friends, Boston Legal, Just Shoot Me!, Prison Break, and My Name Is Earl. He had a recurring role on the TV show Prison Break as Homeland Security Agent Don Self. He also appeared on the FX show The Shield as undercover Detective Ronnie Gardocki. In 2009, Rapaport directed the documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest. Rapaport is a basketball fan and enjoys playing the game recreationally.
