John Samuel Waters Jr. who was on born April 22, 1946 is an American filmmaker, writer, actor, and artist. He is famous for his cult films Hairspray, Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, and Polyester.
Waters had a private education at the Baltimore-based Calvert School. Upon graduating from Towson Jr. He attended Boys' Latin School of Maryland and Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, Maryland before graduating. He frequently traveled into downtown Baltimore as a kid to Martick's, a beatnik pub, where he and Milstead first met many of the people they would eventually work with on films.
In addition to Polyester (1981), Cry-Baby (1990), Serial Mom (1994), Pecker (1998), and Cecil B. Demented, he has also written and directed additional movies (2000). His movies incorporate surrealism and postmodern comedy.
In films such as Sweet and Lowdown (1999), Seed of Chucky (2004), 'Til Death Do Us Part (2007), Excision (2012), and Suburban Gothic, Waters has performed as an actor (2014). Recently, he has been travelling with his one-man show This Filthy World. He frequently collaborated with drag performer and actor Divine and his core group of Dreamlanders.
In addition, Waters is a visual artist who works in a variety of media, including sculpture, photography, and installations. In 2016, the Maryland Institute College of Art awarded him an honorary degree. He was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album in 2015 and 2020, respectively, for the audiobooks he produced for his works Mr. Know-It-All and Carsick. 2018 saw the appointment of Waters as an officer of the French Order of Arts and Letters.
