James Stephen Murray (born May 1, 1976) is an American comedian, actor, author, and producer from Staten Island. He is a member of The Tenderloins comedy troupe also consisting of Brian Quinn and Sal Vulcano. Along with the other members of The Tenderloins, he stars in the television series Impractical Jokers which premiered on December 15, 2011.
Murray began his comedy career in high school, performing with The Tenderloins at local Staten Island establishments. After college, he worked various jobs while continuing to perform with the group. In 2005, The Tenderloins competed in and won the NBC reality television series It's Your Show, earning them a $100,000 grand prize. This led to the group's events becoming more popular, and in 2010, they began touring nationally.
In 2011, The Tenderloins landed their own television show on TruTV called Impractical Jokers. The series follows Murray and his fellow troupe members as they coerce one another into doing public pranks while being filmed by hidden cameras. The show was a rating success and has been renewed for multiple seasons.
In addition to his work on Impractical Jokers, Murray has also appeared in a number of films and television shows. He made his film debut in the 2014 comedy Let's Be Cops, and has since appeared in the 2016 comedy How to Be Single and the 2017 action film The Fate of the Furious. He has also guest-starred on episodes of the television series Inside Amy Schumer and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
