An American stand-up comedian named Jackie Kashian. Kashian, who is of Irish and Armenian ancestry, was reared by her father, Elliot, and stepmother, Nancy, along with her four elder brothers and one older sister. She was born in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1983, she received her diploma from South Milwaukee High School. Kashian attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, graduating in 1987 with a degree in English and Mass Communications.
Kashian began her stand-up comedy career while still in college. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles, where she worked at various comedy clubs, including the Comedy Store, the Improv, and Laugh Factory. She has appeared on numerous television shows, including Last Comic Standing, The Tonight Show, and Conan.
Kashian is a regular performer at the Melrose Improv and has toured with the likes of Dana Carvey, Kevin Nealon, and Tim Allen. She has also performed at various comedy festivals, including the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival and the SXSW festival.
New episodes of Kashian's podcast, Dork Forest Radio, afterwards known as The Dork Forest, were released once or twice each week starting in August 2006. She co-hosted the show with comedian Joe Wilson when it first debuted on the BlogTalkRadio network, and for a number of years it was broadcast live from her Van Nuys home. However, once she left BlogTalkRadio, it was pre-recorded in her living room before being broadcast.
The Jackie and Laurie Show, a new podcast from Nerdist Industries, was launched in early 2016 by comedians Kashian and Laurie Kilmartin. Later, after gaining independence, the podcast relocated to the Maximum Fun network. The two mainly talk about stand-up comedy in LA and on the road, with sporadic discussions of Kilmartin's multi-generational family living situation, harassment and the unfair treatment of female comics, and her job as a staff writer on the late-night circuit.
