Dax Shepard is an American actor, comedian, filmmaker and podcast host. He was born on January 2nd, 1975 in Highland Park, Michigan. Shepard claims that his mother named him after the wealthy playboy Dax (Diogenes Alejandro Xenos) in Harold Robbins' book The Adventurers. Shepard has said that he was raised in Milford, but spent most of his childhood living in various suburbs of Detroit, with the majority of his time being spent in Walled Lake Michigan. In 1993, he graduated from Walled Lake Central High School and then went on to attend The Groundlings school. Shepard graduated from Santa Monica College, West Los Angeles College, and then UCLA with a B.A. in Anthropology- magna cum laude.
Shepard began his career as a stand-up comedian before guest-starring on several television shows including "Punk'd" and "Gilmore Girls". He made his film debut in the comedy "Idiocracy" and has since appeared in a number of films, including "Employee of the Month", "Smother", "Without a Paddle: Nature's Calling", and "Hit and Run". Shepard also wrote, directed, and starred in the 2012 film "Hit and Run". In addition to his work in film, Shepard has also appeared on several television shows, including "Parenthood", "Raising Hope", and "The Ranch". He is also the host of the popular podcast "Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard". Shepard is married to actress Kristen Bell. They have two daughters together.
