Amanda was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Queens, New York. She graduated from the High School of Performing Arts in 1996. Amanda then attended Stanford University, where she double majored in English and African American Studies. She graduated from Stanford in 2000. After college, Amanda moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. She began her career as a stand-up comedian, performing at various clubs and venues around the city. She soon began landing small roles on television shows and movies. In 2016, Amanda was cast as Tiffany DuBois on the HBO comedy series Insecure.
