Valjean eventually finds himself in the company of a group of revolutionaries known as the Student Protesters, led by the idealistic young student Marius. When the revolution breaks out, Valjean must decide whether to risk his freedom to save the life of a young girl, Cosette, who is caught in the middle of the fighting.
