Sacramento Republic FC is an American professional soccer team based in Sacramento, California, that plays in the Western Conference of the USL Championship. The Republic FC (Sacramento FC) was founded on December 3, 2012, and began play in the 2014 USL Pro season. They played their home games at Bonney Field in Cal Expo until 2020 when they moved to Papa Murphy's Park at Cal Expo. The team won the USL Cup in its inaugural season and has been one of the most successful teams since joining the league. In October 2014, the team announced its expansion bid for Major League Soccer. MLS Commissioner Don Garber visited Sacramento in March 2015 to tour possible sites for a new stadium and meet with Republic FC investors and city officials. A month later, it was reported that the league had awarded an expansion franchise to the group led by Warren Smith and Kevin Nagle.
The Sacramento Republic FC players' MLS expansion bid was officially announced on October 2015. On January 2018, the Republic FC announced they would rebrand as Sacramento Soccer & Entertainment Holdings (SSEH), with Warren Smith becoming the new chairman and CEO of the organization. On October 2019, it was announced that SSEH had acquired the San Francisco Deltas of the North American Soccer League. The Deltas would then be rebranded as Sacramento Republic FC 2 and play in the USL Championship. In January 2020, SSEH announced a new broadcast partnership with Sinclair Broadcast Group, which included the launch of a new regional sports network that would carry all Republic FC home matches starting in the 2020 season. The channel, called Sac Republic FC TV, launched on March 2020. On August 13, 2020, it was announced that SSEH had acquired a National Women's Soccer League expansion franchise that would begin play in 2022.
The Sacramento Soccer team will be known as Sacramento Republic FC Women and will play its Sac Republic home games at Papa Murphy's Park. On October 2020, SSEH announced that they had acquired a majority stake in Sacramento Republic FC from Warren Smith and Kevin Nagle. The new investment group is led by Ron Burkle, Matt Alvarez, and Alex Zheng. As of the 2020 season, Sacramento Republic FC has won two USL Cups (2014, 2019) and one regular season title (2015). The Sacramento Republic Soccer Team has also reached the Conference Finals four times (2014, 2015, 2016, 2018) and the Semifinals six times (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019). Sacramento Republic MLS is one of only three teams to have qualified for the USL Cup Playoffs in every season since joining the league, along with the Rochester Rhinos and Louisville City FC.

Sacramento returned the favor against Monterey Bay when Union secured a 1-0 victory at Heart Health Park on June 17 earlier this year.
