The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC is a professional soccer team based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The team was founded in 2015 and has been playing competitively ever since. The Switchbacks play their home games at Weidner Field, located on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs campus. Over the years, the Switchbacks have developed several rivalries with other teams in their conference, including Real Monarchs SLC, Phoenix Rising FC, and Las Vegas Lights FC. The Switchbacks have won numerous awards throughout their history, including one USL Championship Western Conference title and two USL Championship Mountain Division titles. In addition to these successes, the team also boasts an impressive list of former players who went on to play professionally in Europe or North America, including Andre Rawls, Josh Suggs, and Jordan Burt. Currently leading the program is head coach Brendan Burke who took over in 2020 after Alan Koch left for Inter Miami CF. Burke has already made his mark on the program by leading them to a winning record in his first season as head coach and earning Coach of the Year honors from both United Soccer League (USL) Championship and USL League One (USL1).
The Switchbacks are led by some of soccer's top players such as midfielder Saeed Robinson who was named First Team All-Conference USA last season; forward Shane Malcolm who had nine goals last season; defender Aboubacar Keita who had seven assists last season; goalkeeper Abraham Rodriguez who had five shutouts last season; and midfielder Jordan Burt who scored three goals last season. As they look ahead to the 2023 season, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence.
