New York City FC II is an American professional soccer team based in New York City. Founded in 2015, the team plays its home games at James M. Shuart Stadium on the campus of Hofstra University and is part of the United Soccer League (USL) Championship. The team has quickly become one of the most successful teams in the league, winning two USL Championships and appearing in three finals since its inception. The team has also developed several rivalries with other teams in their conference, including Philadelphia Union II, Charlotte Independence, and Hartford Athletic. The current head coach for NYCFC II is Ronny Deila who took over in 2020 after his predecessor John Wolyniec left to take a job with Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls. During Deila's first season as head coach, he led the team to a winning record and earned Coach of the Year honors from both USL and United Soccer Coaches Association (USCA).
The team is led by some of the league's top players such as defender Joe Scally who was named USL 20 Under 20 last season; midfielder Andres Jasson who was named USL Young Player of the Year last season; forward Valentin Castellanos who had seven goals last season; midfielder Jesus Medina who had five assists last season; and goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard who had nine shutouts last season. As they look ahead to the 2023 season, NYCFC II will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence.
